The Burke Civic Ballet proudly presents it’s 32nd Annual performance of The Nutcracker! 

Founded in 1993, The Burke Civic Ballet, offers our students a professional ballet performance with our yearly Nutcracker. Dancers from age 3 to professionals present the holiday classic at a professional theater and it has been an area favorite for 32 years. Our dancers fine-tune their ballet technique and performance skills and enjoy the camaraderie that leads to an amazing final product for our entire community to enjoy.

Please join us as we present our 32nd annual Nutcracker at Northern Virginia Community College’s (NVCC) Ernst Theater!

Performance dates are: 

Thursday, November 20th – Friends and Family Working Rehearsal – No Guest Artists – Tickets are $18 for all for Working Rehearsal

Friday, November 21st at 5:00pm – Friends and Family Opening Night 

Saturday, November 22nd at 2:00pm & 6:00pm

Sunday, November 23rd at 1:00pm & 5:00pm 

Tickets:  Adults = $38     Children and Seniors = $28

FAQs for Nutcracker Guests

1.     When do tickets go on sale?

Online ticket sales open October 18 at 10 a.m.

2.     Where can I buy tickets?

For assistance with handicap ticketing for wheelchairs or scooters, contact Buffa’s Dance Studio at 703/425-5599 or buffadance@msn.com.

3.     How much do tickets cost?

Prices are $38 for adults, $28 for children (18 and younger) and $28 for seniors (64 and older). Tickets to the working rehearsal (Thursday, Nov. 20, with no guest artists) are $18.

4.     Are tickets sold on-site?

A limited number of tickets may be available to buy. Please see the ticket representative at the security desk. Spare tickets can be turned in here.

5.     I can’t find my tickets!

Look for an email from no-reply@drttix.com with the subject line: Order Receipt link from Burke Civic Ballet. The ticket representative at the security desk in the lobby can also assist you.

6.     Where is the theater?

Ernst Cultural Center is located at the Annandale campus of the Northern Virginia Community College. The easiest access to the theater is the Center Drive entrance off Wakefield Chapel Road.

7.     Where should I park, and is there a fee?

Parking is free on weekends and after 3:45 p.m. on weekdays in student lots and the garage. Enter off Wakefield Chapel Road.

8.     When do the theater doors open?

Doors open about 30 minutes before the show.

9.     When do the theater doors close?

Doors close at showtime. Lights will flicker in the lobby and theater as a signal that the performance will begin soon.

10.  What happens if I arrive late?

There are a few minutes of prelude music before the curtain rises on Act I and Act II. Please see an usher for seating assistance. Once the curtain rises, ushers will hold up guests at the back of the theater until a logical break in the scene.

11.  How long is the show?

About two hours long with intermission.

12.  How long is intermission?

15-20 minutes

13.  Are snacks available for purchase?

Yes. Visit our lobby concessions table for prepackaged snacks, treats and non-alcoholic beverages.

14.  Are food and beverages allowed inside the theater?

Only water is allowed in the theater per NVCC rules. No food or open beverage containers (unless needed for medical reasons). Please put concession snacks away before entering the theater.

15.  Can I buy flowers at the theater for cast members?
A limited number of bouquets may be available for purchase at the theater, but pre-ordering your flowers guarantees availability and supports the Nutcracker Flower Fundraiser in advance.

All pre-ordered flowers will be available for pickup at the theater 30 minutes before showtime and during intermission.

16.  Can I send a note of encouragement to a cast member backstage?

Yes! Candygrams are available to purchase in the lobby. Our dancers love encouraging notes and sweet treats!

17.  Are other gifts available to purchase?

Yes! Please visit our pop-up holiday shop in the lobby to purchase Nutcracker-themed gifts. Proceeds support the Burke Civic Ballet.

18.  Is photography or videography allowed inside the theater?

No. Videography and flash photography are prohibited. Professional photographs and videos will be available in the weeks following the show. Cast member families should look for an email with download links from Buffa’s Dance Studio.

19.  Can guests, including children, sit or stand in the aisles?

No. Aisles must be kept clear at all times.

20.  Where are the restrooms?

There are restrooms on the first and second floors of the building.

First floor: Head through the lobby toward the gym past the security table to the hallway to the right. Note that these restrooms are also used by our dancers and are on the small side.

Second floor: Take the balcony stairs to the second floor and walk through the glass doors to your right at the top of the stairs and head straight through the dining area and past the elevator. These restrooms have the most stalls.

Elevator access is available near the security table in the lobby.

21.  Is the theater accessible to people using wheelchairs, scooters or walkers or who otherwise need assistance? Do I need to reserve handicap seating ahead of time?

Tickets for wheelchair or scooter spaces (spots not seats) are presold as such; these spaces DO NOT have theater seats or chairs. They are located in Row E of Orchestra Right and Orchestra Left, plus spots in Row N of Orchestra Right and Orchestra Left.

In the balcony, they are in Row P of Balcony Right and Balcony Left plus Row R of Balcony Center. 

Please see an usher if you need assistance on site. We are happy to accommodate early seating.

Walkers/other mobility devices: Please ask an usher for assistance. Ushers will be happy to park mobility devices like walkers or scooters just outside of the theater doors and return them after the show.


Elevator: Located in the lobby just past the lobby stairs. Guests can access the elevator past the security table.

22.  Where can I store a stroller?

Strollers can be placed just outside the exterior theater doors or beneath the stairs during the show. Strollers aren’t allowed in the aisles of the theater. Please see an usher for assistance.

23.  I left something behind in the theater. Where is lost and found?

Please visit the security table to check for lost items as ushers do a sweep of the theater following each show.
